EPinephrine Auto-Injector Options
The Annie LeGere Foundation believes that every person who is at risk of anaphylaxis and prescribed epinephrine should be able to afford it. Patient resources that may help reduce out-of-pocket cost for epinephrine are listed below.
Although EpiPen® is the "Kleenex" of epinephrine auto-injectors, there are alternative options available. All EAI's contain the same medication. Affordability and access are often the difference in epinephrine auto-injectors. Please speak to you doctors to familiarize yourself with the available options.
If you want a generic version, you doctor must write a prescription for the generic epinephrine auto-injector.
Always familiarize yourself and family with any option you select. You might need to contact your child's school to inform them that you have selected a generic so they have time for ample training.
Many insurance companies now exclude certain options or have a preferred alternative.
